@brandon.nicolasg: A common misconception when preparing for the fire academy is thinking you have to put on muscle any way you can to beef up. Muscle is without a doubt important, but it’s imperative you build it the right way. It doesn’t have to be difficult either. 1. Structure a plan building your muscle around movements that will help you in the academy. Functional movements, deadlifts, squats, presses, pulls, carries. These aren’t just “gym lifts,” they’re the same patterns you’ll use dragging hose, raising ladders, and hauling gear. 2. Make sure you’re also focusing on cardio and muscular endurance. Strength with no cardio doesn’t help you. Zone 2, HIIT, Threshold training sessions build the base that gets you through a full training day, not just a single rep max. 3. Don’t neglect grip and core. Your hands and midsection will fail before your legs do. Farmer’s carries, sled drags, and core stability work are what keep you upright when everything else is fatigued. #firefighterlife #firerescue #firedepartment #firefighter #tipsandtricks
