The comparison to time share is actually super accurate. The Catholic Church has done a lot of things like that over the years. Have a deceased relative you want out faster from purgatory? Pay this amount and you get a certificate. Another has been selling “real” holy relics. Often times fake just to get more money from the people. Why Martin Luther the Monk left the Catholic Church, posted the 95 theses condemning the behavior of the Catholic Church of the time. People back then also couldn’t read or read the bible themselves and relied on the Catholic Church to be reading it accurately to them. Why Luther translated the bible for the common people of the time. Got in lots of trouble cause of all this and eventually excommunicated (kicked out) of the church. So what Guillermo is saying is makes a lot of sense historically.

I’m a recovering catholic as well. Not born in Mexico, but raised in an immigrant household, so very close. Deconstruction is important, but you must realize it sooner than later for the suffering to stop.
