@sim__simma: is this city-specific or is just because I grew up in Sydney I’m not sure xx #creatorsearchinsights #positiveencouragement #startups #melbournefood

Having lived 20 years in both cities, I can say I love both, and also attest that Melbourne people are nicer.

Victorians are nicer/friendlier than people in NSW, as someone who grew up in Vic and now lives in NSW. Obviously there are nice/not nice people everywhere but in a general sense I’ve always found this

It’s just that we are a progressive city - that deeply respects creativity and initiative. I chose to live in Melb (I’m a Pom) over Sydney because of the vibe. Only places that come close are London and NYC. You’re welcome anytime.

Huh? What did you think we'd be like? We're the arts capital of Australia. We love an independent art queen.

Not enough people talk about how great Melbourne is in this way! Sydneysiders also tend to ask where you’re from (suburb) when they first meet you, typically to size you up, suss out where you are on the socio economic status / generalising here but that’s my experience

Melbourne girl! I moved to Sydney for a year and the culture was so bad it felt like anyone would throw you under a bus to get ahead 😅 moving back to Melbourne was a sigh of relief

I grew up in Sydney, but I noticed this as soon as I moved to Melbourne. I noticed it even more when I had kids. Down here, every time you would go to the park people would have a chat. But when I would go home to Sydney, nobody would say hi. They mostly kept to themselves

Having been born and raised in Melbourne, one thing that has often struck me about Sydney is people are more interested in status. Working for a traditional outlet would give you status, doing your own thing has no status. This isn’t a thing that Melbourne cares about.

I’ve always found Melbourne people to be nicer in general, but also many of us hate mainstream media so creating an alternative to that might be part of the reason you got so much encouragement
