@markwilmson: Call Center Jobs Suck! Here’s why - -Your calls are monitored. -Your metrics are tracked. -Your average handle time matters. -Your schedule is measured down to the minute. Miss a metric…Be late coming back from break or show up late for work… And you’re getting written up or somebody’s probably having a conversation with you. #callcenter #callcenterjobs #callcenterlife #badjob
I dont think its the job itself that sucks, at least for me I work for a good company its the PEOPLE who call!!!!! Dealing with rude, arrogant, nasty people all day is what sucks. People who have balls over the phone who want to talk down to you or be aggressive thats what makes it bad at least for me.

As a call center supervisor you’re right about the metrics and the monitoring of calls, it’s no different from any other job where you’re held accountable for your performance, however I think it’s important how that’s handled and communicated to you. Before I found the call center job I was working food service and labor work so to ME it was way better.

Micromanagement sucks and that is what happens at a Call Center. Once I decided I did not care about their metrics I felt better about my job. The harassment is because if you don’t meet the metrics then they don’t either. Bonuses go out the window and guess what, I get a check whether I meet or not. I take my time and don’t care what they think I need to do or what they want me to do. Fire me.

you nailed it. I literally ended up in my current job because of survival. I was unemployed and it was the only job i got an offer for at the time. ive been at this job for a year now and the entire year ive been applying for other jobs. I just put in my 2 weeks notice last Friday and start a new job on 9/14. I can't wait to be free of this place! I'll NEVER work another call center again

I currently work for a call center for one of the biggest banks in the country. They make metrics a god, we have zero downtime between calls (back to back to back), EVERYTHING is monitored, we have to file complaints which include the customer’s issue and our resolution while on the call which is close to impossible to have time to document, and when we put ourselves in paperwork (ACW), someone immediately tells us to log out, which raises our unaccounted time, which can get you written up. Like it’s hell and every time I clock in I want to d*e. 🤪

I'm a supervisor in a call center when I started out in the call center. It was good money. The benefits are amazing, but the turnover rate and the burnout rate is ridiculous. Most of us are on high blood pressure medication. Now you literally get death threats all the time, people are just nasty. It is such a high stress job. And the metrics are ridiculous. You can't take 5 minutes to calm down from that. Horrible call, where they were calling you names and threatening to kill you. Your family, your dogs, whatever you got going on. Over like 25 cents in tax that they feel they shouldn't have been charged, because if you take that 5 minute breather, that makes your after call work, go along. And then you get in trouble and you could potentially lose your job

I use every free moment to apply for another job. Call Centre jobs are hellish. I don't think a job has ever stressed me as much as my current job.

It's low paying soul sucking job with metrics that are almost impossible to attain and if you do manage to hit them, they will change the rules again. there is no one to answer questions about changes that affect customers. they just want you to wing it! there's a reason all those call centers have rolled overseas. Americans are done

It's not even about helping customers and being courteous. I got "dinged" by QA, after I told the customer why they needed to hold and for how long and the reason, but didn't ask the customer's permission

I work at a call center. I just woke up today at 6am and feel so refreshed because it's my day off. When I wake up at 6am on a work day I feel so drained, tired and annoyed. Like iliterally feel sick.

I used to be a realtor. Then the real estate market in my area got over saturated with agents and under saturated with homes after Covid and it just got too hard to make a living. So I took the first job I was offered, wfh in a call center. I literally log off at the end of the day and sit in silence and dissociate because it’s so bad. I’ve been trying to apply for non phone positions but making it past the AI filter has been pretty much impossible.

Going on 20 years of working in call centers. The job itself is easy, it's the BS from the companies, unrealistic expectations, unrealistic handle times, caring more about the customer than the employee... It's all of the behind the scenes stuff that's exhausting.
