@nayanicolex: To clarify, I’m not talking about someone communicating that they need space and giving clarity on when they’ll come back to the conversation. I’m talking about completely shutting your partner out, disappearing, and refusing to communicate while knowing they’re sitting there anxious and needing clarity. There’s a lack of emotional regard in that. Your partner should care about how their actions are affecting you, even when they’re upset. Needing space doesn’t mean you stop considering the emotional impact you’re having on the person you love. You can take space while still giving reassurance and making your partner feel emotionally safe.
I just need him to say “I love you and I’m not going anywhere, I need time to think. I’ll be back” is this too much to ask for

The clarity part makes sense, but prioritizing your partners need for closeness and intimacy over your needs for space to cool down is self-abandonment and leads to a facade, self-erasure and resentment

I learned what works is saying look we’re both mad right now we need to take a deep breath because I don’t think we’re listening to each other and I don’t want to dismiss what you are feeling

IT IS EMOTIONAL ABUSE‼️‼️‼️and it’s just as bad or even worse than physical abuse and studies even say it does more harm and damage to the physical body which is why women start losing their hair, having breakdowns, anxiety, sickness, hits to the immune system and more

My therapist said I shut down and stay quiet bc it’s a trigger response but I have gotten better at communicating I need space bc if I don’t then I’ll be an asshole and say something I don’t mean. It’s for his safety not mine babe I’m getting better I promise

It’s funny too because if you’re in a relationship with someone who shuts down and “needs space” you will almost never compromise, it will always be their way or the highway when it comes to how conflict is dealt with

Yes it is unless it is communicated first that you need the space. But remember the space shouldn’t be hours or days. Figure it the fuck out and go have the talk.

I was never insecure before I got with him. I never had anxiety before I got with him. I was never depressed before I got with him. I don’t want to blame it on him but he opened a wound. Yet I don’t hate him for it tho.

I depends on the person. I need space when I’m mad and so does he. We take a day. Then when I cool down I communicate with him 🤷🏻♀️.

Well depends how they communicate. You can’t yell and shout to win an argument to push the other person away. Maybe you triggering their wound too 🤷♀️
