If I’m being honest most first gens, if there’s a large enough population, they create their own spaces where they can be equally American and equally African 🤷🏾♂️(i.e NYC, DMV, etc)

As a 1st gen, personally I identify more with America tbh. I accepted that AFTER I went to Liberia for the 1st time this year. I don’t eat the food. I don’t speak the language. I don’t have a relationship with any Liberian people aka I’m not close to my family period. I never fit in with Liberians here either. All of my relationships are with Black Americans. FBAs only exist on the internet imo. 🤷🏾♀️

1st gen here, I am ethnically African and have always been proud and conscious of my background. At the same time I was born and raised in the us and as a result have been enveloped in blk American culture and history which I love and appreciate as well. I always saw it as a unique cultural bridge I got to experience that no one back home can understand and was always content in that.
