I’m grew up in a Texas small town with a population of 601 people. This is spot on. I’ll also be in a tax bracket getting raised, but I’m good with that if that means others have food and shelter.

Just anectodal, I saw lots of family friends switch parties during the Reagan days. Bought into the buzzwords of “welfare queen” and whatever the moral majority was selling. Add in Rupert Murdoch in the 90s. So many still vote against their own interests.

My father said to me when I was just starting to vote.. “If you don’t know who to vote for, think of the most vulnerable person or people you know, and vote on their behalf”. I was 18. I’m 61 now and still vote the same way

I work in home health and so many of my low income and rural patients are die hard Republicans/MAGA. I see them struggling to pay for their basic needs, meds, Healthcare, etc. They are also frustrated with "the system" yet totally miss how this administration has made everything so much worse for them. 😔
