So is this a double tax break? The money put into an IRA can deduct from your taxable income. Then convert the IRA to a Roth IRA and not claim taxes on the withdrawal from the Roth IRA either??

Hi I keep reading you can only contribute 7500/year to your IRAs so how can you move millions into a Roth IRA? Thank u!

Does this loophole also allow you to put more than $7,500/yr into the Roth?

I never understood why they have a backdoor… just get rid of the income limit. It is entirely stupid at this point. The worst part is when you accidentally get close to the limit… then you have to move it back to traditional and then back out to roth. It is slightly messy.

IRAs do have an income limit. You can verify this by googling it and reading 600 million citations.

Can you talk about the best way to protect yourself from totally flattening your financial stability when you get laid off? In today’s corporate world, getting laid off after just a few years at a company and getting teeny tiny severance while being laid off for months is so normal now. Happened to me and I used up my rainy day fund and had to dip into my retirement because I was jobless for 6 months, with a mortgage and the main breadwinner with two children . I had start all over again saving at 35 ☹️

This feels like a stupid question, but I’m gonna ask it anyway… Then why do people put money into a 401(k) as opposed to a Roth IRA? Does the 401(k) grow faster than Roth IRA?

OR Convert those old 401ks to a Traditional IRAs first. Get them out of your old employers plan and into something you can manage.

I'd like to point out though that the amount you convert is added to your taxable income for taxes, so it's great to do this if you are unemployed that year or have a dip in income

Is there a responsible way to invest in the stock market? Only buying certain stocks and not others that one deems problematic?
