@liveloveruntravel: The USAA National Military Memorial in Washington, DC is open through August 23, 2026 {SAVE for later + FOLLOW for more!} Visit the memorial website to search for anyone who has served in the military to see if they are included (you can do this without visiting). Once you find them, click under their name to grab the code you’ll need when you visit. You’ll provide this when it is your turn, and the name(s) will appear for up to 45 seconds. Each person can request 6 names split across two turns with the screen. If you need more, head to the back of the line. Speaking of the line, it is long, most of it is not shaded, and it is hot. Bring water and maybe an umbrella. There are lines on both sides of the memorial, so check both! The line can be 3+ hours on weekends. Try arriving before it opens at 10 am or coming later in the evening after 8 pm. Personalized names are displayed from 10 am - 10 pm daily, but they do shut down when lightning is in the area. The display is always on though, and names are randomly displayed, changing every few seconds. We were able to find both of my grandfathers and my great grandfather as well as some of my husband’s family, and some family for two of my sisters-in-law.
