No, but I DO understand the idea. He genuinely can’t read but his work around is so effectively close to what reading is. He’s pretty fast at it too.

So basically it would be like a color blind person seeing red. They know its red because someone told them that the color they are looking at is red, but they don't actually know its red, only thats what red is supposed to look like

so what you're describing is whole language learning which is what's making the more recent generations illiterate, because they have little to no mechanisms to discover new words... vs phonix which teaches parts of sounds and context clues to discover new words

This is a literal thing these days. I’ve seen some videos of teachers saying that their students were like this. They can read, technically, they just lack basic/advanced English language comprehension. They don’t know how to “decode” text.
