Koa'e kea flying all over the lava fountain. Koa'e kea The koa'e kea, or white-tailed tropicbird, is an iconic Hawaiian seabird, recognizable by its white plumage, black eye mask, and long, tapering tail feathers. It nests on rocky cliffs, particularly in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, and feeds on flying fish. Key characteristics: Appearance: White plumage with black streaks on the wings and eyes, and an orange-yellow bill. Males have very long tail feathers, sometimes almost as long as their body (about 40 cm). Behavior: A solitary pelagic bird that comes ashore to nest, often on inaccessible cliffs for protection from predators. It uses thermal soaring to stay airborne for extended periods. Habitat in Hawaii: Found on the cliffs of Kauaʻi, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, and Hawaii (Kīlauea crater). Reproduction: They lay a single egg per season, incubated by both parents. Symbolism: In Hawaiian culture, this bird is sometimes associated with love and loyalty. #Love #volcanoes #bird #lava #flying
