Let’s continue getting acquainted with the new pieces from our collection “Women of the Eras.” Today we introduce the dress “Germaine.” Germaine de Staël was one of the most influential women of the late 18th and early 19th centuries — a writer, philosopher and brilliant intellectual. She became famous for her literary works, political essays and for the salons she hosted, where many of the most important thinkers of Europe gathered. Germaine de Staël was known for her independent mind and strong opinions, and she was not afraid to openly challenge the ideas of powerful figures of her time, including Napoleon Bonaparte. It was during this period that the Empire silhouette appeared in women’s fashion — light, elegant and much more natural than the complex constructions of the previous century. Dresses of this era featured a high waistline just under the bust and a softly flowing skirt. After the dramatic and structured gowns of the Rococo period, fashion became lighter, more airy and closer to the natural shape of the body. The “Germaine” dress is made from 100% cotton with delicate machine embroidery. The light fabric reflects the atmosphere of the early 19th century — a time when clothing became simpler, yet still elegant. We did not aim to create a 100% historical reconstruction. Our garments feature machine-sewn seams, which makes the pieces stronger and more practical for modern wear. The “Germaine” dress is already available in our Etsy shop, and very soon you will also be able to find it on our website.
