@nickandracheloutdoors: 🦦 Did you know Cades Cove was once known by the Cherokee as Tsiyahi — “Otter Place”? River otters once lived throughout the creeks and streams here before disappearing from the area in the early 1900s. Decades later, Great Smoky Mountains National Park began reintroducing otters, and today they’ve made an incredible comeback — they’re even sometimes spotted near Abrams Falls! 🌿💦 It’s pretty amazing to hike through this area knowing otters are once again living in a place whose Cherokee name literally means “Otter Place.” 🎥 We share more from this area in our full Abrams Falls adventure on YouTube!
