@sharon.a.life: I declare myself… “NOT A WIFE!!!!” Time to kick off all the things I learned about being a nice uplifting god fearing, husband following wife and rewrite all the things I want to be now. Married to my best friend? Yes! Wife? Nah. I’m just Sharon who happens to be married to this hot person over here. extradwife #thisis40 #wifelife #exreligious #smashthepatriarchy
This is exactly how I live. I don't do anything for him that I wouldn't already be doing for myself. I have my own bedroom and we haven't had sex in almost two years.

My entire feed is women in this mode. Decentering husbands and men in general. Recentering life on ourselves. I’m very here for it.

There’s always the Michelle Obama flavor of wife… she does whatever she wants and never has to iron a shirt

Yeah, I figured out this is the key to happiness. I do my thing, he does his thing, we do some things together. But I’m not responsible for his shit and he isn’t responsible for mine

I could talk about this feeling for hours. I could write a dissertation on it. The female maturation of midlife and shedding of taught societal responsibilities. Like the final evolution into true self.

My spouse and I have used the term “teammate” from the beginning and it’s been so essential to our relationship. The core of how we function together is as teammates. The connotation of “wife” or “husband” functions more as a bonus role we get to engage it when it feels appropriate and we have enough energy. He’s dealing with mental health issues and I’m dealing with physical disability. We’re also a queer couple, so the lines were blurry to start with.

You’re retired as a wife! I’m in the process of doing this! (but also for me the process of actual legal divorce). You could technically still stay legally married and just redefine what marriage means fire but but I recently started framing my divorce (for myself and in the company of trusted people) in terms of “retirement.” I put in my 20 years as a wife and now I’m retiring. I’ve done it, I’m over it. I’m ready for a new phase. (I’m also not planning on coming out of retirement for any other man in the future!!) I am owed a nice retirement package with some accumulated financial benefits as well as continued health insurance options for me and ideally a pretty hefty cash payout for unused time off!

I literally stopped doing anything around the house. I stopped picking meals (for other people), I stopped making sure clothes were washed, I stopped making sure dishes got done, and I don't cater to anyone anymore. my house is a mess, but I don't care. they can figure it out.

There’s so much power in choosing to be in a relationship. I hear you on not wanting divorce and challenge what divorce could really mean—I found redefining my status from wife to partner or co-lifer wasn’t enough, I wanted the power to choose to stay without the institutional pressure of marriage

I think this is actually incredibly relatable. My youngest says all the time, “I don’t want to be a mom. Can’t I be the dad.” To which I say, “everyone wants to be the dad.” 😂
