@thomasyeum: the most beautiful place you’ve never heard of 🇧🇬 📍7 rila lakes, bulgaria I first learned about bulgaria when I was an RA back at columbia, when I met another student who was an international student from the coastal city of varna. he described a country overcoming the shift from communism to capitalism, slowly adopting the euro, amazing food that blends greek, ottoman, persian, and slavic influence. and in my short stay in sofia, I’ve seen pieces of so many different eras coexisting all in one place: a mosque next to communist highrises next to ancient ottoman ruins, all built next to a massive mountain overlooking the south end of the city. oh yea and the videos simply do not do the nature justice. I can’t believe this place isn’t fully overrun by american tourists. truly a place that deserves more attention
