lowkey, I feel like the point of berdly's character wasn't a pun. I feel like his character was made to prove how ruthless people can be to others they deem "annoying." the game doesn’t necessarily ask you to like him before it asks you to care about what happens to him(well, for my interpretation of the game atleast). His “annoying nerd” persona also becomes more sympathetic when you realize how much of it is because of his insecurity. He wants to be smart, impressive, respected and important. A lot of his obnoxious behavior comes from desperately wanting other people to see him that way.Also, I think it's also particularly heartbreaking abt the fact that berdly, obviously, is still a kid at the end of the day. He's a kid just like kris, Susie and noelle. Berdly has his own story, his own problems just like the others.

Bit of a rant, but whatever. I feel like whenever people talk about the Weird Route, it’s always just “Proceed!”, and they don’t really talk about the fact that Berdly is very ill. Berdly is shown as this nerdy, annoying character, and some players REALLY hate him. But honestly, I don’t really understand why. As Queen said, there’s “nothing wrong with him, he’s just annoying.” Going back to the Weird Route, some of those same players hated him so much that they started asking, “What if I could kill him?” And that’s the part that gets me. This defenseless kid is now very seriously ill because we wanted to kill him. It’s easy to look at the Weird Route as just a funny “evil route” where you get to mess with the game, but when you actually think about what you’re doing to Berdly, it gets pretty fucked up.

no one visited, not even Noelle or any of his parents, not even at least one of his classmates, even if Kris did it was optional to them and WE made them do it. Berdly was left forgotten on a hospital bed, and if it wasnt for Kris, he was going to be left alone at the library.

Berdly’s character is significantly deeper than the fandom tends to make him out to be. He was so afraid of being inferior. He relies on NOELLE of all people for help. Berdly is a smartass and a jerk because if he isn’t then what does he have to show for himself? That he’s lonely? That he only won the spelling B because Noelle got caught up in her sister’s disappearance?
