Another Ronaldo fan that I will have to spoon feed context. This makes no sense at all almost every national tournament has gone through a schedular change like the euros because of Covid in 2020. Copa America is one of the older international tournaments therefore there schedule aligned with many things like the injury issue from the copa America in 1987 being hosted every two years causing pressure and injuries on all the South American players. In 1959 the copa America was played twice but that was because the conmbel federation was asked to try Ecuador’s new stadium so they hosted it two times that year so I will agree with you that uraguy swim that year shouldn’t have have happened as it was a pretty dumb reason to host it again. Other than that the rest of the changes had very good reasoning. After the injury issue was “fixed” they decided to host it every three years but was immediately put to a stop when they realise the copa America would align with the World Cup qualifications putting more stress on South American players. Then they decided to host the copa America every four years which is gonna be the most confusing part for people like you. Even thought the 2016 copa America happened if you hadn’t noticed from 2007 -2019 it kept its four year formatting (2007,2011,2015,2019.) Now the reason why the 2016 copa America was held was because people realized the copa America wouldn’t get it’s be able to get it’s 100 year anniversary like the euros so they decided to host it in 2016 to celebrate it. Than in 2021 like the euros it got hosted weirdly because of Covid and it also explains why only South American teams were invited cause it WIULD be a Covid hazard to invite teams from other countries. Now with the copa America having a set schedular we can see how hard it really and can acknowledge the real banter cup which is the nations league. It is the only tournament to be hosted every two years, the only tournament to interrupt players international break, the only tournament to replace international friendlies, and the only tournament have one of its own players call it glorified friendlies. the main flaw with the nations league is the structure throughout the year, i can’t value a tournament that has 2 games every month as much as euro or copa, teams dont have time to prepare and history matters a lot too; (plus fifa rankings are completely useless)
