Authorities are inspecting the reef and bridge to assess possible damage. MNDF said the boats, which were under Maldives Customs Service control, had 20 Indian crew members aboard. MNDF rescued crew members and said they would be handed over to Customs, which has yet to comment or explain why the boats were under its control. The boats, AL1 and Togo-registered MT KG1, entered Maldivian waters on April 26, reportedly travelling from Shinas, Oman, to Kandla, India. They had moored near Malé for about a week without notifying authorities and came to their attention on May 3, according to Chief Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef. The crews had reportedly sought help for several days, with 11 Indian crew members on AL1 appealing for assistance in a video after the vessel sustained heavy damage during rough weather. They said they were running low on fuel, food and clean water and feared the boat could drift. The two boats had reportedly been sharing a single anchor. MNDF and the Coast Guard launched operations after the boats went adrift, while authorities continue to assess the incident and any damage caused to the bridge and reef. image source: Social Media #maldives #maldivesinsights
