People who say they're trees are wrong. Most scientists don't even know how to classify these properly, but they are most likely a fungi, not a tree, fern or anything else like that. They are called Prototaxites. They went extinct when real trees began to evolve and outcompete them for sunlight. It's okay if you didn't know what they are, and I know it's minor, but misinformation is still misinformation.
