🚨 FRESNO POLICE OFFICER CAUGHT IN A CONTRADICTION ON CAMERA 🚨 This is how easily a situation that never needed to be a problem can escalate. While covering a newsworthy incident as an independent journalist, I had already received permission from Fresno Police Department PIO Castillo to be where I was. Then Officer Reyes, who was working traffic control, approached me and told me I didn’t have permission to be there. But it gets better. Officer Reyes claimed he had personally checked with the PIO and was told I didn’t have permission. There was only one problem: 🎥 I had already spoken directly with the PIO—and I had been given permission. So now I’m being confronted and pressured to comply based on information that directly contradicts what the department’s own Public Information Officer told me. That’s not a minor misunderstanding. That’s exactly how unnecessary confrontations escalate. As an independent journalist, I get heat from every direction for doing what every other news outlet does: showing up, documenting public events, and keeping the community informed. And believe me, my cameras have captured plenty that I’ve chosen not to publish. I’ve witnessed conduct ranging from questionable interactions to allegations involving officers taking money. I’ve actually been extremely selective about what I release because my goal has never been to wage war against Fresno PD. But accountability goes both ways. When an officer uses the authority of the badge to challenge a journalist’s presence—and backs it up by claiming the department’s own PIO said something completely different—the public deserves to see that interaction. I’m not asking anyone to blindly believe me. I’m showing you the footage. Watch Officer Reyes. Listen to what he says. Watch how the interaction develops. Then decide for yourself whether this is how Fresno Police should interact with journalists—or members of the public—who are lawfully documenting what’s happening in their community. 🎥 This is why we record. 🇺🇸 This is why a free press matters. 👀 And this is why accountability should never depend on whether someone is wearing a badge. The camera was rolling. Now the public gets to decide. #fresno #fyp #CaughtOnCamera #trending #ice
