Karina spent three whole weeks planning this. She had a secret folder on her phone named "Taxes" so Winter wouldn't suspect anything. Winter, on the other hand, was terrible at keeping secrets. She kept grinning at Karina for no reason, almost vibrating with excitement whenever the topic of their anniversary came up. They sat on their living room rug with two wrapped boxes between them. Karina's box was wrapped in shiny silver paper with a perfect bow. Winter's box was wrapped in dinosaur paper with way too much scotch tape. "You go first," Karina said, gently nudging her silver box forward. "No, you!" Winter insisted, pushing her dinosaur box toward Karina. "I worked so hard on mine. I had to hunt it down, Jimin." Karina laughed, her heart warming at the use of her real name. "Fine, we open them at the same time on three. Deal?" "Deal," Winter said, her eyes shining. "One," Karina started. "Two," Winter chimed in, already ripping a corner of the silver paper. "Three!" Paper tore in chaotic synchronicity. Karina sliced through the excessive tape of the dinosaur box, while Winter shredded the silver foil like a feral cat. They both reached into their boxes at the exact same moment. They both pulled out the exact same thing. It was a giant, ridiculously round, rare fat duck plushie wearing a tiny knitted bucket hat. The room went completely silent. Karina stared at the yellow duck in her hands. Then she stared at the identical yellow duck in Winter's hands. "Wait," Winter whispered, her eyes wide. "How did you get this? It was sold out in five minutes." "I set three alarms and begged my cousin in Japan to buy it for me," Karina said, her jaw dropping. "How did you get it?" "I literally traded my rare photocard to some teenager on Twitter," Winter said, looking utterly bewildered. They looked at the two round ducks sitting side by side on the floor. It was like looking into a mirror. "We accidentally bought the exact same gift," Karina said, the realization finally hitting her. Winter let out a sharp laugh that quickly turned into a wild giggle fit. She fell backward onto the floor, clutching her duck to her chest. "We are so stupid," Winter gasped, kicking her feet in the air. "We literally spent weeks sneaking around for this." Karina couldn't help but laugh too, her shoulders shaking as she collapsed next to Winter. She propped herself up on her elbow, looking down at her girlfriend. "Hey, at least we know we have the exact same taste," Karina pointed out, bopping Winter's nose. "But now we have two of them," Winter said, sitting up and placing the two ducks next to each other. "They look like twins. What do we even do with two?" "They can be roommates," Karina suggested. "Or we can put them on the bed so they can watch us sleep." "That is so creepy, do not do that," Winter laughed, throwing a pillow at her. Karina caught it easily, her grin widening. "Fine, they can sit on the couch and guard the living room. They look very polite anyway." "They do look polite," Winter agreed, adjusting the tiny knitted bucket hat on her duck. "Mine looks a little bit sweeter than yours, though." "They are identical, Winter." "No, mine has a spark in its eyes. Yours looks like it has no thoughts." "Just like its owner," Karina teased, ducking when Winter tried to swat her arm. They rolled around on the floor for a minute, laughing and wrestling until Karina ended up hovering over Winter, holding her hands down gently. "Happy anniversary, princess," Karina murmured, her eyes softening as she looked at her girlfriend. "Happy anniversary, my love," Winter replied, her voice dropping to a sweet whisper. They shared a soft, lingering kiss, the silly yellow ducks completely forgotten for the moment. #karina #karina #winter #aespa #fyp
