this reminds me of that one episode of ted where the dad, Mandy couldnt get hard because he was stressed but his lack of hardness was getting him stressed so it was a "shrodingers yknow" the doctor called it, which reminded me of asuka in a way her kinda i guess realization she cant be as good as shinji stopped her from believing shes the best pilot which in caused her to not be able to put out enough sync rate which put her lower and caused her to believe in herself less and less.
