The new Hello Kitty & Friends x Godzilla Happy Meal, available at McDonald's starting Tuesday, Aug. 18, comes with one of eight toys blending Hello Kitty characters and monsters from the Godzilla movies. McDonald's describes the new Happy Meal toys as "the ultimate crossover where Kawaii meets Kaiju, making friends at first bite and proving that even the mightiest monsters have a soft side," on its menu spotter website. A kawaii creature exudes cuteness à la Hello Kitty, a character – it's a little girl, not a cat – created in 1974 by Japanese entertainment company Sanrio. "Kaiju" references giant monsters such as featured in Japanese films and TV, according to the Oxford English Dictionary.
