Tom, despite believing in the immortality his horcruxes created, never learned how to slow down. This is where I truly find his descent into madness fascinating. Despite slowly growing in power and gaining all of the things he desperately lacked as a child (wealth, power, respect, pureblooded backing) he never leaves the mental state of that boy in the orphanage no matter how hard he tries. We see a continuous pattern in everything he does where the closer he gets to a goal he's set the more impatient he becomes. In fact, if he'd stepped back and never gone after Harry himself the likelihood of the prophecy be fulfilled would have been unlikely. That's what makes Voldemort interesting. He's not stupid or lacking in power, he's impatient because he never learned delayed gratification. Waiting too long for something at the orphanage meant it was gone.

yeahh this is why I like Grindelwald more than Voldemort bcs Gellert knows how to hold on to power through influence and diplomacy while Tom is much more a violence person but one literally almost took over Europe while the other got a beef with a child

also, all he needed was ONE horcrux, six was greedy. obviously splitting your soul seven times is gonna have disastrous effects, if he hadn't been so obsessed with achieving a seven part soul he mightve actually retained his body when he was k1lled by Lily Potter and not just remain as a spirit. at the very least he would've had enough power to possess an actual human and not just small snakes/woodland animals

One thing that really get’s me about Voldemort is his relationship with his death eaters. And his disappointment on why they never sought him out when he was originally defeated. He built his relationship with his later death eaters on a foundation of fear. Fear does not equal loyalty, and when it really comes down to it, they will always pick themselves over him. Obviously you have the few exceptions like Barty, Bellatrix, Rodolphus, and Rabastian. But the rest of them flake when things go wrong. And it’s really funny because he acknowledges this in the graveyard after his rebirth when talking to Wormtail. And I’m like sir, you kill, and torture them over the simplest mishaps. I just feel if he would have at least tried to build his death eaters not just solely not on fear, he would have had a relatively stronger group internally.
