@mojijapanese: POV: you learn Japanese has one word for counting flat things (枚 mai), a completely different word for long thin things (本 hon), another for small animals (匹 hiki), another for large animals (頭 tō), another for machines (台 dai), another for floors (階 kai) — and then 一本 (one long thing) randomly becomes ippon, 三匹 becomes sanbiki, and 一階 becomes ikkai. Oh and 一人 and 二人 (1 and 2 people) are completely irregular readings. Japanese counters are genuinely one of the hardest parts of the language. But the good news? 一つ hitotsu through 九つ kokonotsu works as a fallback for almost anything. Lesson 28 — follow for more. #LearnJapanese #Kanji #助数詞 #日本語 #japanese
