Recipe Name Oven-Baked Stuffed Cabbage with Savory Beef and Tomato Sauce Ingredients 1. Green cabbage – 1 large head 2. Ground beef – 1 lb 3. Long-grain white rice – 1/2 cup, uncooked 4. Yellow onion – 1 medium, finely diced 5. Garlic – 4 cloves, minced 6. Olive oil – 2 tbsp 7. Crushed tomatoes – 28 oz 8. Tomato sauce – 15 oz 9. Tomato paste – 2 tbsp 10. Beef broth – 1 cup 11. Worcestershire sauce – 1 tbsp 12. Smoked paprika – 1 tsp 13. Dried oregano – 1 tsp 14. Dried thyme – 1/2 tsp 15. Salt – 1 1/2 tsp, divided 16. Black pepper – 1 tsp, divided 17. Brown sugar – 1 tbsp 18. Italian seasoning – 1 tsp 19. Shredded mozzarella cheese – 1 1/2 cups 20. Grated Parmesan cheese – 1/4 cup 21. Fresh parsley – 2 tbsp, chopped Recipe 1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a deep baking dish with olive oil and set it aside. 2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the outer cabbage leaves, then place the whole cabbage in the boiling water for 5–8 minutes, peeling away the softened leaves as they loosen. Continue until you have 8–10 large leaves. 3. Drain the cabbage leaves and let them cool slightly. Trim the thick central ribs carefully with a knife so the leaves can roll without tearing. Reserve any smaller leaves for lining the baking dish. 4. Rinse the rice under cold water. Cook it in a saucepan with 1 cup of water for about 8–10 minutes, until partially tender. Drain any excess water and allow the rice to cool. 5. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant. 6. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook for 6–8 minutes, breaking it into small crumbles. Season with 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, smoked paprika, oregano, and thyme. Drain excess grease if necessary. 7. Transfer the beef mixture to a bowl and combine it with the partially cooked rice. Mix thoroughly so the filling is evenly seasoned and holds together when rolled. 8. In the same skillet, combine the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, Italian seasoning, remaining salt, and remaining black pepper. Simmer for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is rich and slightly thickened. 9. Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Arrange any reserved cabbage leaves across the base to prevent the rolls from sticking. 10. Place approximately 1/3 cup of the beef and rice filling near the base of each cabbage leaf. Fold in the sides, roll tightly, and place each roll seam-side down in the baking dish. 11. Pour the remaining tomato sauce evenly over the cabbage rolls, making sure they are well coated. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil to keep the cabbage tender during baking. 12. Bake for 60–75 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender, the filling is cooked through, and the rice is soft. Check that the center of the beef filling reaches at least 160°F (71°C). 13. Remove the foil and sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan evenly over the rolls. Return the dish to the oven for another 10–15 minutes until the cheese is melted, golden, and bubbling. 14. Let the stuffed cabbage rest for 10 minutes before serving. Spoon the rich tomato sauce over each roll and garnish with freshly chopped parsley. Serve warm with crusty bread, mashed potatoes, or a fresh green salad.
