Chapter 5: PRIVILEGE Lisa studied the image longer than necessary. She leaned back slowly in her chair, fingers resting absently against the edge of the file. Everything about Jennie suggested someone emotionally difficult to control. Jennie wasn't reckless. Worse, she was self-aware. And maybe that was what unsettled Lisa most. Jennie noticed reactions too easily, especially the ones people tried hiding. Lisa had seen it immediately in the conference room, the way Jennie watched her like she could already tell exactly which parts of Lisa were carefully held together. Which made Lisa's growing inability to stop thinking about her significantly more concerning. Because Jennie felt like the kind of person who would eventually notice every crack if Lisa gave her enough time. And the worst part? Lisa had already let her see one. The memory arrived before she could stop it. Jennie pulling her closer outside the nightclub like hesitation had never existed between them. The heat of Jennie's mouth against hers. The sharp, dizzying loss of control Lisa still couldn't fully explain days later. God. Lisa pressed against her temple before exhaling through her nose. She should've walked away that night. Should've recognized immediately how dangerous Jennie was the second she realized the woman beneath her hands wasn't intimidated by her silence, her composure, or the authority Lisa carried so naturally everywhere else. Instead, Jennie had looked at her like restraint was a challenge. And somehow, that had been worse. She'd spent years surrounded by people wanting things from her. Attention, affection, proximity... until admiration stopped feeling personal a long time ago. This felt personal. Because Jennie affected her in ways that felt immediate and deeply inconvenient. Even now, Lisa could still remember the exact expression Jennie wore during the meeting whenever Lisa avoided eye contact too carefully. Jennie looked amused and far too observant, like she already knew. Lisa hated that. Almost as much as she hated the fact Jennie was right. A soft knock interrupted her thoughts.

"Come in." Minnie stepped inside carrying a tablet before her eyes immediately flickered toward the open file spread across Lisa's desk. Her expression remained professionally neutral. Mostly. "Tomorrow's finalized schedule," Minnie said carefully. Lisa accepted the tablet without looking up immediately. "Move Jennie's studio recording earlier." Minnie glanced down at the tablet. "It's already prioritized." "I want it moved to the morning." Minnie looked up this time, studying Lisa for half a second too long before nodding slowly. "Understood." Lisa continued scrolling through the schedule. "And clear my afternoon." "You already cleared it once." "I changed my mind." Silence settled between them before Minnie finally spoke again. "You're personally overseeing the album rollout?" Lisa looked up calmly. "Jennie's transition into the company is important." "Mm." Minnie still didn't sound convinced. At all. Lisa narrowed her eyes. "You have something to say." "I have several things to say," Minnie admitted carefully. "I'm just deciding whether I enjoy employment enough to keep them to myself." Despite herself, Lisa almost smiled. Almost. Instead she handed the tablet back. "Send Jennie's revised schedule directly to management." Minnie accepted it slowly before turning toward the door, though she paused after a few steps. "You're staying late again?" "I still have paperwork." Minnie's gaze flickered once toward Jennie's open profile before returning to Lisa. "Right," she said carefully. The door closed moments later, leaving silence settling heavily across the office again. Lisa stared at the skyline for several more seconds before finally reaching for her phone. She shouldn't text Jennie. The thought arrived immediately. Logical. Reasonable. Completely ignored. Lisa typed slowly anyway. Looking forward to working with you professionally. What happened the other night can't happen again. -LM —— Full Chapter available on Wattpad! #jenlisa
