Don’t beat yourself up. I work in a financial institution I’m exposed to all these sort of tricks that the fraudsters use and I also got scammed not in my home country though but while I was abroad but same same. They play on the urgency and the fact that you know if you don’t act immediately your funds are gone. Chin up, you’ve managed to save someone else.

The exact same thing almost happened to me with a TymeBank scam syndicate but they asked for my card information. Just a good rule of thumb: banks will never reach out to you first about fraud or suspicious activity, you always have to contact them. If someone calls claiming to be from the bank and uses urgency or high-pressure tactics to make you panic, just tell them, 'Okay, let me call you back via the app or official customer service.' They hang up or crumble almost immediately. Sending you hope that your hard-earned money finds its way back to you. 🌸

I'm sorry this happened to you! Just to mention - banks DO sometimes call you. It's incorrect that banks never call. With STD Bank, if someone calls you and claims to be from there, you can login to your app while you're on the call & you'll get a pop up telling you the name of the person from the bank you're talking to.

I recently watched a documentary where people say they get tricked /kidnapped into another country and basically get forced to do this. They are forced to scam people out of their money and it’s even built like a call centre and everything!!
