@qztaoism: 大士爷 — The Great Guardian of the Hungry Ghost Festival During the 7th Month, one of the most iconic figures you will see at a Chinese temple or a Hungry Ghost Festival is 大士爷 (Da Shi Ye), often known as the Flaming-Faced Great Guardian or 面燃大士. He is not simply “the biggest ghost” or a king of ghosts. In the traditional religious understanding, 大士爷 is associated with overseeing and protecting the realm of wandering and hungry spirits, especially during public offerings and salvation rituals. #taoism #hungryghostfestival #大士爷 #guanyin #ghost
