A woman climbed out of a mangled car and vanished into the darkness after a violent rollover crash triggered a second collision moments later in Downtown Los Angeles. Around 1:36 AM, a newer-model black Kia sedan slammed into the row of yellow, sand-filled impact barrels protecting the crash attenuator at the split between the westbound 10 Freeway and the northbound 110 Freeway. The impact exploded the barrels, sending sand across the roadway before the Kia overturned multiple times and came to rest with catastrophic damage. Witnesses reported seeing the female driver climb out through the rear of the destroyed Kia, open a door, and run on foot along the northbound 110 Freeway before disappearing. No driver was ever located, and it remains unknown whether anyone else was inside the vehicle. As traffic slowed for the rollover, a second crash occurred moments later just behind the scene. Two vehicles traveling westbound on the 10 Freeway collided in what appeared to be a minor rear-end crash while approaching the wreckage. That collision can also be seen near the end of the video. LAFD Central Bureau was initially dispatched to 1624 S. Grand Ave. after callers reported an occupant may have been ejected from the freeway onto the street below. LAFD crews included Engine 10, Engine 210, Truck 10, and Rescue Ambulance 10 responded. Later determined those reports were unfounded after learning the female driver had fled the crash scene. CHP is investigating the collision. The cause of the rollover, whether any additional occupants were involved, and why the driver fled all remain under investigation.
