@calmnursementor: Autonomic Dysreflexia. A T4 spinal cord injury, BP 210/110, and a pounding headache. What’s your FIRST action? The wrong answer here is the one you studied hardest for. Autonomic dysreflexia: bladder distention is the #1 cause — and it’s still not what you do first. Save this one, it comes back on the exam.
We actually learned it was a T6 spinal cord injury. Does that really make a difference between T4 and T6??

I'm currently a CNA working toward getting into nursing school, and I definitely fell into the trap of choosing B. 😂 I'm following more pages like yours to hopefully train my algorithm to show me more educational content. That way, when I doom scroll, at least it's productive doom scrolling. 😂📚

@DrSirgoddygenius🇰🇪🇺🇸 :
Immediately sit the patient upright (high-Fowler's position) and lower the legs.
This helps reduce blood pressure and decreases the risk of stroke, seizures, or intracranial hemorrhage.
Then:
Check BP frequently (e.g., every 2–5 minutes).
Identify and remove the triggering stimulus, most commonly bladder distention → check the urinary catheter for obstruction/kinks and assess the bladder.
If BP remains severely elevated, administer the prescribed rapid-acting antihypertensive.
Assess for other triggers such as fecal impaction or skin irritation.

Well if its something I had to do FIRSTLY and its available infront of me then I’d sit my patient upright because I am already there 😂 Mini interventions can make a big difference in the NCLEX world.

Loosen all clothing, check for kinked catheter, sit pt up 90 degrees, check for fecal impaction.
