@loudly.leo: I went from feeling like the one who was always losing my cool to seeing the person beneath his mask, and the truth is, they both caused really deep harm I just couldn’t see yet. #relationships #abuse #dv #emotionalabuse #healing
I was in a similar situation where my dad was the one driving and he was screaming and yelling nonstop, while i was crying and begging for him to stop. And he didn't, not until i screamed back, i didn't even say anything, i just screamed as loud as i could. He wanted to get that extreme reaction out of me before he agreed to stop.

Yeah I was in an emotionally and sexually abusive relationship in my early 20s, and I was so anxious all the time, because when he would get angry or upset at me, he would give me the silent treatment. He wouldn’t talk about what was wrong; he just said I was wrong and then stopped communicating.

I hope sharing your experience helps you as much as it does all the people who recognise this abusive dynamic in their relationships you lay out in your videos. Thank you!

i wish I could hug you. but I didn't know how much I needed your videos to realize what was happening in my situation. i used to say "We NEVER fight"
I've been in therapy and support groups for the past two years and finally started sticking up for myself .. lo and behold we've magically started fighting all the time. realized that all the times we "didn't fight" were because I silenced myself... because my nervous system shut down and I went mute.

did you know that the brain scans of women who experienced long term systematic abuse like this have the same and sometimes more significant brain damage as seen in combat survivors. it was hurting you. thank you for sharing. I hope you thrive and continue to recover 💐❤️

I just had the most horrific realisation… I’ve heard people describe this kind of “push you until you react” behaviour and how people often don’t realise that they are being abused… I used to teach teenagers… 16-19 year olds (sometimes up to 21). A few of the male students (and it was IT so they were mostly male) would actually argue like this - the circular argument part - if I had something to say about their work or behaviour. It was exhausting. The realisation isn’t even about whether they were being abusive towards me… it’s that they may well be the abusers in relationships now. 😩

No love, you were not weak. I see you, I hear you, I know exactly what you mean. Those types of circular arguments where it feels like they are wearing you down and kind of pushing you to your limits. It’s fucking terror.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. When you said he was hurting you, he really was. Our brains don't actually distinguish between physical and emotional pain when it comes to our fight/flight response, we register the threat and the distress whether the injury is physical or emotional. We aren't taught to identify emotional/psychological/verbal abuse so it's so hard to come to terms with that even years after. You don't come across as weak at all or like the situation you describe is one where you were too sensitive or anything like that. It sounds like you experienced a lot of distress and you were trying to get the person you loved to stop causing you that distress...
