that's why we build gravity retaining walls with anchors. it does use lots of material but it's cheaper and faster than using all that concrete

Or. Slope the dirt at 45 degrees or stagger it back with short steps, 3 ft up, 3 ft back, with simpler wood walls. Good explainer of forces on a wall if there is no space to step back.
