@aprnbeauty_81: The Nurse wrapped the leaking Gtube in a towel and went to finish her med pass! She ended up in prison! What are your thoughts? Let’s talk about it.! #n#nursesinthenewsg#grouphomen#nurselifef#fypn#nursegang
That’s ridiculous. Just last week we sent a resident out with a leaking g tube and the hospital did nothing and sent her back.

Is the issue the use of a restraint in a LTC facility?

If a patient has to be checked q5 minutes wouldn’t they have to have a sitter?

Mercedes Whitworth DNP, PMHNP :
The issue is not wrapping the G-tube. The issue is strapping somebody to a toilet for an hour for five minutes, strapping them at all.

There's a lot of things wrong with this story. First of all, checking a patient every 5 minutes that patient should have had a private sitter. In that case, if he was that bad . The patient should have obviously been sent to the hospital for replacement. The g-tube right off the bat. And the worst is that he was strapped to the toilet. That's a restraint and they're illegal

Ohhhhhh so he was COLS. It wasn’t necessary the g tube. The man was strapped to a toilet and he was either on 1:1 or continuous line of sight….meaning basically someone should be with him at all times but you document on the form every 5 mins.

Probably something to do with being strapped to the toilet being considered a restraint not so much the Gtube I’m guessing

I bet they were understaffed. Probably gave the nurse an absurd amount of patients. Then when shit goes wrong, they blame her. This is why you have to advocate for yourself. Do not take unsafe ratios.

As a previous neuro/trauma icu nurse, we’d get stroke pts that are 15 min checks so they are a 1:1. No way a pt on 5 min checks should not be.

The gtube isnt the issue. Strapping someone to the toilet is an issue. I would never accept 5 min checks.

I do agree this is wrong. I hear every 5 min checks and that's insane to me. Oh were not a 1:1 facility so let's do a 5 min check.

Not during them long asf med passes!! How can you check someone every 5 mins when you have a 4 hour long medpass and 30-60 patients. She should have stopped the medpass and fixed the g-tube and just been late on everyone’s meds. But I do understand the pressure of having all those meds to pass by a certain time.
