tldr: Scientists made an interesting discovery: there is a peptide in Gila monsters is has a satiety hormone, which means the lizard doesn't have an impulse to eat for long periods of time. This discovery inspired research to synthesize a similar peptide appropriate for human use. We are not extracting peptides from reptiles.

I was mountain biking one day and a Gila monster was chillin in the path. I stopped in time and just chilled with it for a while cause I like never see them. Then it slunk into the brush and I left. Such a cool animal. It's like the reverse dragonfly!
