I love that this utterly disregards using the land itself for anything productive, just using it as an asset to back the loan for a business.
This is one of those things where not saying the thing says it way louder than if you'd just come out and said the main point. Well done

As an accountant this brought me tears of joy! A business owner who accounts for everything and understands everything and doesn't argue that depreciation doesn't matter except as a tax deduction!

The whole point of this that people are missing is that he’s saying if you have land and want to make money - use it as collateral don’t farm it. None of this about farming, owning livestock, or using any of the actual land other than to secure a $400,000 line of credit. As a farmer he’s saying the easiest/safest way to make money from your land is to own land not to farm land.

Me: Sell some of it.
"Assuming you don't sell it."
Me: Dang it, solar farm?
"Beef by the piece"
Me: Dang it, this is why I don't have land!

where is the cost of a butcher to cut the steaks? or, if you're going to cut it yourself, where are your tools cost? are there buildings on the land? or electricity? like she gave you 100 acres of land but no mention of buildings or utilities.

Thank you for this. Is anyone else tired of folks who have never had to navigate not having money constantly showing that the only way they know how to make money is by having money??

why not just lease the land? inlaws have like 500 acres and do that, retired from dairy farming years ago.

The fact that you broke that down so eloquently is exactly why community is so important. (Me an office worker who has no stake in farming whatsoever) 😂

I mean, depending on location if the land you might be able to lease it out as hunting land. Divide it into different areas of varying size and topographical conditions, charge a fee per area based on size, terrain, and what game they’re after
