@littled2378: We have talked a lot about what Lindsay Clancy was able to do that looked “normal.” But how much does that actually tell us about what was happening inside her mind? I have a feeling you guys are going to have a LOT to say about this one. #LindsayClancy #LindsayClancyTrial #TrueCrimeTikTok #CourtTok #TrialTok

My mom was given a full hysterectomy instead of a gallbladder removal in the 80s and when she sued the jury didn’t award her the full amount because she didn’t “look” like it impacted her

Women, mothers and nurses hide their thoughts and turmoil daily. People need to start taking words at face value.

I literally have been so stressed TF out going to work everyday but do my best to be positive. The ONE day I was quiet and didn’t feel like talking- everyone had something to say about it and assumed I had an attitude…well now I do, because no one noticed when I was REALLY struggling/aka MASKING.

She looked and acted normal but was reaching out to her close friends and family and doctors and saying she wasn’t. I think that’s the difference—she wanted to be normal and happy for her kids, but behind closed doors she was begging for someone to help her figure this out. And very few people reach out for help unless they know it’s getting very bad and scary for them. We all have bad days or even seasons, but you don’t reach out and tell people every time you feel “off”

She was doing everything right she was reaching out for help asking for help again and again and again just to be ignored. She looked okay acted okay well still asking for help and still... Parents, moms especially can look completely normal and act normal for the sake of their children. We are constantly put on the back burner even if we don't have mental health issues. Women's health as a whole is so far behind, because for so long most medical research has been done purely on men. The little they have done apparently means nothing if you look at how women are still treated today with all we know now.

As someone with chronic pain, headaches/migraines, depression/anxiety/panic attacks WHILE at work caring for patients, and a 1 in 300,000 person rare disease - some of my worst days I look the best b/c I am masking. I don’t want my outside to reflect the mess that is my inside. Also it’s a fck ton easier to say “I’m fine” than have to deal with people who don’t actually understand what’s going on inside my body and head trying to understand and offer “solutions” that are radically unhelpful.

isn't guising 'emotions' on the daily what we're trained to do as girls, ladies, wives mothers?not to be too sensitive or too emotional or too excited or too angry or too. . . ugh. I'm GenX, so women's feelings although acceptable to express was still largely considered unattractive to outwardly have. look pretty, act useful. which then begs the question who's observance of 'norma' are we using to determine the scale? in my experience it isn't until the lack of normalcy affects those we interact with does it then become 'abnormal' behavior, "too much" for someone else. sigh.

I think that people misunderstand mental illness. You can be profoundly mentally ill and still do normal things, most people are functionally mentally ill while working taking care of family doing task tasks. This is something hard for people to understand that have not experienced it.

I got car-jacked and ran perps off twice. Cops said I was fine, because I looked fine. I will never feel safe again. Two times in 2 different cars in same parking lot. No report taken. Didn’t even look for them. First guy was still in parking lot when I came out of store.

In the past I had self deletion thoughts every minute at some points and I was a college student, worked 2 jobs. I functioned and I would say that people had no idea. In fact I was considered "so funny". Looking normal means nothing.

It's like the commercial where people are carrying a mask and place. It over their face to show a smile and then remove the mask and show their true feelings🥰

I have been stating, as mothers we could have an internal battle going on. On the outside we look happy and normal in order to get things done.

I have chronic physical and mental illnesses. and for the vast majority of 2021-2024 I was SEVERELY suicidal and stuck in a deep loop of PPD, BPD, C-PTSD, and untreated neurodivergency. I also experienced homelessness, a divorce, separation from my oldest child while I worked out securing housing, a second pregnancy (while homeless), a premature labor and delivery, and a month long NICU stay for said baby. I genuinely do not know how I managed to stay alive other than sheer willpower, lots of tears, and lots of screaming into the void at the top of my lungs. To the outside world, those not in the car/hotel/friends houses with me, I was functioning fine. what chouce did I have? I'm a mother. it's my job to provide safety, comfort, and consistency to my children. but my cup was empty and I was still pouring from it for them. I'm okay now, I've been in therapy nearly a year, I'm medicated, I'm housed, I have my kids, and they're healthy and happy. but when I look back, idk how I made it through. I'm blessed that I had friends online who checked on me and body doubled with me every day. I had friends IRL, though inconsistently, who helped on occasion too. my fiance was working a lot, not because he wanted to but because he had to for our survival. People just... you have to be compassionate. you don't know what people are going through. you just don't.
