What is EMDR? 👁️ #EMDR #traumatherapy #lighttherapy #colourtherapy #soundtherapy EMDR — Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing is a trauma-focused psychotherapy used to help people process distressing and traumatic memories. During EMDR, a person focuses on aspects of a difficult memory while experiencing bilateral stimulation, often following a light or the therapist's hand from side to side, but it can also involve alternating sounds or tactile stimulation. The science behind exactly how EMDR works is still developing. What we do know is that the brain responds to sensory stimulation, and research has shown that rhythmic sound can interact with neural activity. Neuroscience research has also demonstrated that neural oscillations can synchronise with musical stimuli. This connection between the brain, sensory stimulation and emotional states became particularly interesting to me. Through my own experience with trauma, PTSD and dissociation, I began noticing how strongly colour, sound and sensory input could affect my state. When I became overwhelmed or disconnected, I found that certain grounding colours and certain sounds could help me reconnect with the present moment. I wasn't trying to process the trauma itself. I was trying to find my way back to myself. A particular colour could give my eyes something safe to focus on. A particular sound could give my mind something predictable to follow. Rhythm could create a sense of movement and continuity. And combining these sensory experiences with breathing and awareness of my surroundings helped me feel more present in my body. This experience led me to explore the relationship between: 🌈 Colour 🎵 Sound 🧠 Brain activity 🌬️ Breath ✨ Sensory awareness 🫶 Emotional regulation I began to see that an immersive environment could become more than something beautiful to look at or listen to. It could create a sensory journey, one designed to encourage grounding, relaxation and a feeling of safety in the present moment. This isn't EMDR, and I don't claim that colour or sound can treat PTSD. But my own experience made me curious about something that science continues to explore: How does what we see, hear and feel influence the way our brain and nervous system respond? That question is at the heart of what I am developing with Lavender Healing Energy Healing with Colours. Sometimes finding your way back to the present begins with a colour, a sound, a breath, and a moment of feeling safe enough to simply be here.
