Wax Museums are, kinda terrifying. The weird uncanny nature of the figures always puts me on edge, especially as it feels like one may lunge at you at any moment. However, one wax museum accidentally took this to the extreme, creating one of the most notoriously weird and creepy roadside attractions ever made. Laclede's Landing Wax Museum or (also known as the St Louis Wax Museum) is based a warehouse built in the 1880s. It features three floors and two basement levels packed with over 250 wax models. What makes this museum such a trip is its organization. The place is laid out like a tight maze and the figures are laid out with little rhyme or reason, meaning you'll never know who you're going to see next. That is, if you can work out who the figures are meant to be, as due to their often dusty and decaying nature and the museum's lack of lighting, many figures resemble shadows lurking in the corner of your eye. This only gets more intense when visitors descend into the basement for the chamber of horrors, which is loaded with various gore-soaked monsters, horror movie characters, and real world historical villains, all soundtracked by a constantly looping soundtrack of screams and industrial machinery However, despite this weirdness I'll admit to being charmed by the St. Louis Wax Museum. Now that most museums have adopted the same overly-polished high-tech sheen with wall-to-wall interactive screens, it's cool to see a museum that retrains the old-school cabinet of curiosities feel. #waxmuseum #creepy #spooky #roadsideattractions #museum
