I’m a 69 year old MD. Reluctantly I just gave my 6 month notice. I like absolutely everything about my specialty, especially the patients and the people I’m privileged to work with, some for 3 decades. I hit my “number” many years ago but, it’s so gratifying to help people I never wanted to stop.

Became a nurse at 21. Lived below my means and worked a lot. Hit 1 mill by the time I was 29-30. If I can do it anybody can. Wish they taught this more in school to people.

Interesting, I saved every penny I made an emergency medicine I’m 18 years in, at the 20 year Marc I will retire. But I bought real estate with it and maxed out my 401(k) and profit-sharing. Might’ve been simple to just put it all in a brokerage account

That’s rare. It’s hard to get physicians to stop. Especially with the older generations. My dads 74, he retired from operating a couple years ago but does works comp/IMEs once 1-2x/month still making great money. I don’t think he will ever stop.

Great plan. Retired physician at 58. I put too much in 401K. The tax burden is gonna be high. Now making with conversions. Absolutely have enormous brokerage account to help defray big taxes later.

Yes, you can 100% do that. My guess in less than 20 Yr of practice. So before you turn 55. You could be aggressive and do it at age 50!!

💯. I’m a new attending and aggressively paying off my loans. 260k set to be paid off in 4 years total (only two years left!). My goal is not to have to work full time all the time. This is a hard job and I have too many non medicine interests to completely have my life dictated by my job!
