@gutdoc03: A few GI facts that often surprise people 👇 1️⃣ You can poop every day and still be constipated. Constipation isn’t only about frequency. Hard stools, straining, incomplete emptying, or difficulty passing stool can all be part of the picture. 2️⃣ Probiotics aren’t always the answer for bloating. Bloating can have many causes, and adding more bacteria isn’t automatically helpful. In some people, probiotics may do very little — or even make symptoms feel worse. 3️⃣ Celiac disease doesn’t always cause diarrhea. Some people have constipation, bloating, iron-deficiency anemia, fatigue, or very few digestive symptoms at all. That’s one reason it can be missed. 4️⃣ Low-FODMAP isn’t meant to be a forever diet. It’s typically used as a temporary elimination phase followed by structured reintroduction to identify specific triggers. Staying overly restrictive long term can unnecessarily limit food variety. 5️⃣ A colonoscopy can look normal — and biopsies can still reveal microscopic colitis. With microscopic colitis, the colon may appear completely normal to the eye. The diagnosis comes from examining tissue samples under a microscope. GI symptoms are rarely as simple as they seem — and sometimes the most important information is in the details. 🩺 Which of these surprised you the most? 👇 #trending #gastroenterology #fyp #doctor #locum

Emily :
At 21 I had a colonoscopy for abdominal pain (cramping) and weight loss, occasional diarhhea He said the colon looked normal to the eye, but no biopsies were taken should this should’ve been done.

reecey1million :
I was told by a registrar decades ago I had microscopic colitis, then at the next appt I saw the lead consultant of the clinic who told me she had no clue what I was talking about and it wasn’t a thing. Decades later after years of suffering I have testing again and I am diagnosed with collangenous colitis. The registrar was 100% correct.

Dr Nandi :
The probiotic conversation is so overdue. They’re definitely not a universal fix for bloating.
