Directors picked actresses with the type of boob they liked and/or were popular at the time. It doesn’t mean everyone’s boobs looked that way, it’s just what the popular aesthetic was at the time.

Boob jobs weren't as common so you saw a lot of naturals and when someone did have a boob job they were done vastly different than today. The pale nipples were a lot of the time make-up too.

I think because mostly they were natural breasts. a lot of breasts these days are body doubles with augmented breasts.
