The bit a demo can never show you is what the drop does when the link drops - hold-last-state and go-to-a-configured-safe-state look identical while everything is working and give you opposite outcomes on a cable pull, and on most platforms that is a per-module setting rather than something the protocol decides for you. Worth knowing about the other clock as well: the RPI you asked for and the controller scan are independent, so the data your logic acts on is only ever as fresh as the slower of the two.
