@spearhead_af: Why Colonialists Shamed Kenyans For Speaking Native Languages @AirlearnLanguageShow describes one person who stood up against British colonial shaming of Kenyans speaking their native languages: Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o (1938-2025). The Kenyan novelist wrote many books in English until he penned “Devil on the Cross” (1980) on toilet paper while jailed. Drop us a comment if you speak your native language. this was so effective that Kenyans brag about how their English is better than people who still speak their native languages

I think one of the advantages of colonialism was learning English by force.
the language links us to interact with the world whereas our own language could've only limitedus to our communities.
what do you think?
like just now,if I texted here every word in my own language how many of you would understand me?
as far as am concerned, learning the colonisers language is an advantage to us.

Today I speak my mother tongue with no shame. Shame on the system. My children won't experience it.

The funny thing is now that we barely know that language, the ones that were forcing us to speak English, are the ones complaining that we can't speak our mother tongue.
