Being a good person shouldn’t depend on a fear of a punishment or a hope of some reward. It matters because choosing kindness, compassion, and honestly when no one is forcing you to is what makes your goodness truly your own

I do good to help others. it would be selfish of me to do good with the means of receiving something in return, that would mean that all the good I have done wouldn't be sincere, it would all just be an act and I've never liked acting.

It’s a genuine question though, what is your reasoning for being a good person if you don’t believe in a higher power to tell you what’s right and what wrong. Sure you could say because the law but laws are different in every society. If you lived in a place with no laws or no morally good upbringing what would make you a good person?

How does one know what defines “being a good person” or having morals come from without a God. If there is no creation then no one would know what’s right vs wrong.

You can reject Christianity while still holding onto moral principles that were shaped by it, but you can’t simply take the morality and pretend its historical source doesn’t matter.
