You talk to an AI matchmaker on the phone about your relationships, and then it decides who you should meet. It’s called Overtone, and he’s already raised $18 million to build it So instead of making you judge hundreds of people from six photos and a two-line bio, the AI turns your interview into small “Insights” about your personality, values and what you actually want. But here’s where it gets weird. It compares those Insights with everyone else, calculates a match score called “Resonance,” and then decides which introductions to send to you. You only see each other’s photos after the AI has introduced you. From there, you exchange voice notes and photos, meet in real life, and the AI gets out of the way. On one hand, this fixes the worst part of dating apps. You get fewer choices, but supposedly better ones. On the other hand, you’re handing an algorithm the power to decide which people you even get the chance to know. It’s basically Black Mirror’s “Hang the DJ, episode” where an algorithm chooses everyone’s partners and runs a thousand simulated relationships to calculate their perfect match. Except now it’s becoming real. Honestly, I can’t tell if this makes dating more human, or if we’re outsourcing the most human decision we make. What do you think?
