@birb.voyager: Here's how YOU can help save Swifts: They are victims of the record breaking june heatwave in Germany. It was an emergency for wild birds. Rescue centers were overwhelmed, and many had little or no capacity left. Swifts spend almost their entire lives in the air. Because of the extreme heat, many are jumping from their overheated roof nests far too early. A sitting swift is ALWAYS an emergency. 🙏 Swifts are declining everywhere due to us. ‼️YOU can take action NOW: - Remove unnecessary pavement so the ground can absorb rainwater. -Protect the diversity of insects, they are essential for their survival - Plant native wildflowers, shrubs, and trees. - Leave patches of grass uncut. - Provide fresh, bird-safe water sources during heatwaves. - Create shade with native trees instead of concrete. - Replace gravel gardens with living plants. - Support green roofs and green walls. - Ask local businesses to replace sealed surfaces with vegetation. - Encourage schools and workplaces to plant native habitats. - Preserve old buildings with nesting sites whenever possible. - Install nest boxes for swifts and swallows during renovations. Mount them on walls facing north to reduce overheating during heatwaves. Avoid placing nest boxes directly beneath roofs. - Support bird-friendly building regulations. - Reduce pesticide use to protect insects, their main food source. - Advocate for more parks, pocket forests, and connected green corridors. - Ask your local mayor to expand urban tree cover and protect mature trees. - Support policies that reduce urban heat islands and restore nature. -Donate, if possible, to local wildlife bird rescues, some are specializing in Swifts ➡️💝Link to help my local Swifts in my Bio or Highlight! 🐣🔗 #mauersegler #swift #wildliferescue #Wildvogelhilfe #birdrescue

I love how deceptively tiny their beaks look when they’re closed.
