They’re teaching you performance styles. When you’re done with them after you graduate you will be selecting your own repertoire and how you want to stylistically play it.

cuz they're taught by someone who was taught by someone who was taught by someone who was taught by the composer themselves...I've heard a lot of that disciple history stuff😂

Well… Very often, it’s about when the piece was written, what was happening in the composer’s life, or the culture of the country where they lived. Many composers were inspired by cultural traditions and folk music, using motifs and phrases that may be obvious to people from the same region but easily missed or misinterpreted if you don’t know the context.
Or, with relatively modern pieces, we may have recordings that were performed for the composer and approved by them. That helps us understand how they wanted the piece to sound. There are soooo many logical explanations ;)

No, because sometimes it's not style/period appropriate.

Sometimes the composers left notes and diaries so we do know more than just the sheet music...

Idk. My teacher said we build a good baseline and then from there on, you are the maestro. So once he was happy with the piece, he would allow me to change things the way I wanted.

there has been standardisation of emotions in this realm (quite in everything Ai hides&behind the curtains replicating...our one collective mind). Teachers like to Normalised to other [already played] existing orchestration (live performance executed)

Yes but a lot of it is in the structure of the underlying chord progression, especially in baroque and classical music like Bach, Mozart, etc. Not saying this is all the time but definitely often

I would genuinely like to know the answer. ✨ Music gives you a path but not a very specific one at times.

100% only exceptions are when you’re teaching kids who need that guidance or your teacher is giving you an idea that might help you play it more comfortably
