We also have them here in the Colorado mining town of Cripple Creek. They are descendants of the donkeys who worked in the gold mines in the 1890’s.

There are plenty signs. I’ve lived in Nevada 47 years and they’ll tell you when you get to these areas do not feed the wild horses or the donkeys because it leads them to stay by the road and that’s how they get hit. I know you mean well, but it just endanger them.

If you come out, please make sure you are cautious and drive slow. Two donkeys have been hit and killed in the past year. The donkeys are used to people being friendly and come out on to the roads often.

Omg they say don’t feed donkeys out of car and they say that for good reason. We were walking to parking lot leaving the town, a car stopped before leaving town and started feeding 6 donkeys out of their car. As soon as they drove off, the donkeys apparently wanted more and charged at my family. It was terrifying! My 4 year old was kicked by one and myself as well. They thought we had food. People were upset that that car stopped to feed them. It was such a cool experience until that happened. Just be careful. They are wild animals.

You are not supposed to feed the donkeys on the road or from your car. This is how they get hit by traffic.

But not the other 100 cars that did it that day. Maybe you are the voice of reason. The voice that can be heard by all future Oatman visitors. Good luck

please don't feed the donkeys human food. They have feed pellets in Oatman you can buy for cheap. feeding the human food will make them sick. they are protected and if caught there are fines for feeding them. Thanks from a local.
