I think it’s important not to generalise an entire generation. Millennials were treated this way too and it’s so damaging to the hiring potential of a candidate who may not act like that. Encouraging this stereotyping online can put already hesitant employers off from hiring a generation who is already seeing the worst job market and most competitive fight for jobs that we’ve seen in decades. Yes there’s people who are hired and set a bad rep, but not everyone as a “Gen Z” is like that. I for one have never acted like this in a professional setting and even stress about how Im viewed by older colleagues purely bc of my age while they get away w stuff short of murder

Idk all the Gen Z I work with are very professional. It’s the millennials and some older folks who have disrespectful etiquette. Making hasty generalizations is not a good move.

I think this reflects that something larger is happening in society, also a lot of these rules are lowkey outdated and the jobs people are doing are not important enough to be acting that stiff

This is so true unfortunately. I had to manage interns at my old job and some of them had no idea that they had to… turn up to a meeting they’ve been invited to? 😭

One girl to another, what advice do you have when management starts treating you like shit? Because I’m doing the work of three people and I don’t see an end to it. My manager said ‘it’s not me, myself and I’ and asked if I’ve got a therapist when I cried to her.

I'm a millenial but I'm sick of gen z being criticised for this when millennial and gen x men have BEEN rude and disruptive in the office...

I think it’s the “this is all literally made up” ideology which I get, but it has spread too far. That termination email will be looking very real though!

As someone who works with a decent number of grads I totally agree, but also some people could definitely do with reminding senior people about that phone point too! 😂

As gen Z I agree with u like oversharing is so awkward for the other person and saying hi isn’t a thing idk why but professionally I’ve not really experienced this and even so in a professional context we’re learning and trying our best, my mother is always saying she’s noticing and learning generational norms from her interns so maybe try compromise expectations instead of constantly expecting them to be on your wavelength

i feel it's also the downgrade of education (i'm a french genZ btw) school levels seems to drop in multiple places around the world + people mingle less with people that doesn't look like them + people are less prone to adapt i feel lately

honestly not a great culture from young people. as a young person myself one reason could be that we’re not as sensitive to age and hierarchy as the other generations we’re also not as hardworking because the cost-reward benefit is so bad (not saying it’s an excuse but just a reason). WFH also does not help things….

Yep, as someone in my mid 40s I would never behave the way young people do in the office now...in some ways I admire their confidence in other times I agree it's just rude and shows a total lack of ability to socialise.
